Radio stars from Lake Charm Primary School

Students at the Lake Charm Primary School visited MixxFM in Swan Hill today to star in the 2017 Gananwarra VicHealth Walk to School radio advertisement that will be broadcast on MixxFM throughout Walk to School month.

The students were assisted by 'Spello' to record their lines in the studio on the microphone. We were very impressed with the confidence and skills shown by the students in delivering their messages, both individually and as a group.

Following their hard work recording the ad, the students were treated to a tour of the MixxFM offices to see how the local news is recorded and broadcast. Everyone was amazed at the technical equipment that is needed to create the radio they listen to at home.

To celebrate the occasion, students walked to Riverside Park for morning tea to stretch their legs and refuel after an exciting morning.

Listen out for our local radio stars throughout Walk to School month. The advertisement will be broadcast every day throughout October.

The radio advertising has been supported by VicHealth as part of this years Walk to School program to evaluate whether it increases participation. A huge Thank You to Sandy and the team at MixxFM for assisting the students to record today.

All eleven primary schools across the Gannawarra Shire are participating in this year’s Walk to School program with students encouraged to ride, walk or scoot to and from school, the school bus or while at school, throughout October.

The Walk to School program promotes the importance of children being Active and Healthy in their communities and fitting at least 60 minutes of physical activity into their daily lives. Getting actively to school, the school bus, or while at school not only helps keep children fit and healthy, it also helps them to stay alert, to concentrate and improves learning outcomes.

The Gannawarra VicHealth Walk to School program is rolled out across the Gannawarra Shire as a Gannawarra Local Agency Meeting (GLAM) partnership project. This is a partnership between Gannawarra Shire Council, Northern District Community Health, Kerang District Health, Cohuna District Hospital, Mallee District Aboriginal Service, Victoria Police, with support from the Southern Mallee Primary Care Partnership.
